Biography

Gambit is the Cajun with a mysterious past. He's a thief, a gambler, and an incorrigible flirt. He can charge small objects with kinetic energy until they explode. Gambit's favorite weapons are playing cards...which he casts with an understated flick of the wrist.

Remy's past is shrouded in mystery.  Prior to joining the X-Men, he was a member of the New Orleans Thieves Guild.  He spent his youth pick pocketing and became an excellent manipulator before he was contacted by Charles Xavier and joined his school.

At the Xavier Institute, Remy became a superb fighter but showed disregard for authority to Cyclops and developed a rivalry with Wolverine.  Also at the Institute the New Orleans mutant fell in love with the Southern Belle Rogue.  Rogue's inability for physical touch was a major barrier to their relationship.

When the time traveler Bishop arrived in the present, he accused Remy of an assassination.  The assassination of Senator Kelly was to trigger events which would lead to the Mutant Registration Act and eventually the takeover of North America by the Sentinels.  Remy was convinced that he wasn't the one to assassinate the Senator, but when the X-Men went to Washington, Xavier insisted that Remy stay behind.  Remy left for Washington by himself to prove that he didn't do it.  There he discovered that Mystique had impersonated him and she was the assassin.  Remy cleared his name and stopped the assassination. Part of Remy's past was discovered when he had to go back to New Orleans to save the Thieves Guild from the treachery of the Assassin's Guild.  His old love, Bella Donna wanted to rekindle romance, but Remy refused. (X-ternally Yours)

Remy was again accused of another crime when he visited Asteroid M.  Fabian Cortez had sent Magneto into space in an attempt to become the leader of the Acolytes and rule the mutants on Asteroid M.  The X-Men stopped Cortez and Gambit's name was cleared once again. (Sanctuary Part I & II)
